Terms of Use
Last updated 5 November 2026
The short version
Kinlist is free. Parents make gift lists for their children and share one link. Family pick a gift so nobody doubles up. You buy the gift from the shop, not from us, so the shop handles payment, delivery and returns. Be kind, only add what you're happy for your family to see, and tell us if something looks wrong.
The full terms are below. They form an agreement between you and us, so please read them.
1. Who we are
Kinlist is run by Adam Ward and Paul Gray, trading together as Kinlist, of Chapel Cottage, High Street, Norton St Philip, BA2 7LG ("we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@kinlist.co.uk.
2. What Kinlist is, and what it isn't
Kinlist helps families sort out presents for birthdays, Christmas and christenings. A parent makes a list, shares a link, and family reserve a gift so nobody else buys the same thing.
We don't sell gifts, take payments or deliver anything. When you tap "Buy now" you go to the shop's own website and buy from them.
3. Who can use Kinlist
You need to be 18 or over and living in the UK to make an account and create lists.
You don't need an account to open a list someone has shared with you or to reserve a gift.
4. Your account
We'll ask you to confirm your email address when you sign up, so reminders and messages reach the right person. Keep your login details to yourself and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account. You're responsible for what happens on your account.
5. Making a list
You're in charge of what goes on your list. Please:
- only make lists for children you're a parent or guardian of, or where their parent or guardian has said yes
- use their first name only, and keep personal details out of your note (no surnames, addresses, schools or photos of the child)
- check sizes, ages and safety warnings yourself before you add a gift
Anyone with your share link can see the list: the child's first name, age, the occasion and date, your note and your first name, and the gifts. Only send it to people you trust. If a link ends up somewhere it shouldn't, make a new one in the list settings and the old one stops working.
6. Gift details
When you paste a link, Kinlist reads the product's name, photo and price from the shop's page. Shops change their pages, prices go up and down, and sometimes we can't read a page at all. The price and stock on the shop's own website are the ones that count, so check there before you buy.
7. Reserving a gift
There are two ways to pick a gift. Either way, everyone else can see it's been picked, so nobody doubles up.
- Buy now. Tap "Yes, I'm buying it" and we mark the gift as bought and open the shop. Please only tap it if you're buying it there and then. Changed your mind? Put it back so someone else can pick it.
- Hold it for me. Nobody else can pick the gift for 3 days, or until the day itself if that's sooner. Everyone else can see when your hold ends. If you haven't bought it by then, it goes back on the list automatically and the parent is told.
- A nudge, if you'd like one. When you hold a gift you can leave your email, and we'll send one reminder the day before your hold ends.
- You can put a gift back at any time, and so can the parent who made the list.
- Kinlist makes double-ups much less likely but can't stop them altogether. Someone might buy the same thing elsewhere, or tap "Yes, I'm buying it" and not finish at the shop.
The name you give when you pick a gift is shown to the parent so they can say thanks, unless they've turned on surprise mode. We never show your email address to the parent or anyone else.
8. Buying from shops
When you buy a gift, your contract is with the shop. Questions about payment, delivery, faulty items, refunds and returns go to the shop, and your legal rights as a shopper are with them too. We don't control shops' websites or products, so we aren't responsible for them.
9. Gift ideas
The "Need some gift inspiration?" panel uses AI to suggest ideas based on what you tell it. Ideas are a starting point. They may not be in stock, may not suit your child, and may occasionally be wrong. Always check age guidance and safety markings (such as UKCA or CE) on the product before you buy. Please don't type personal details into the panel; interests and hobbies are all it needs.
10. Reminders and notifications
If you turn on reminders, we'll email you before each event to make or update your list. You can turn them off on any list. In Kinlist, we'll let you know when gifts are bought, held, put back, or come back on the list after a hold ends. We'll also send the emails you need to use your account, such as confirming your email or resetting your password.
11. Playing fair
Please don't use Kinlist to:
- break the law, or add anything harmful, hateful, sexual, threatening or misleading
- add links to unsafe, fake or illegal websites
- pretend to be someone else, or make lists about children without their parent or guardian's say-so
- sell things, advertise or send spam
- copy or scrape Kinlist, get round our security, or overload the service
12. Your content and reporting a list
What you add (notes, gift links, names) stays yours. You give us permission to store it and show it to the people you share your link with, only so we can run Kinlist.
If you see a list that breaks these terms, or worries you, tap "Report this list" or email hello@kinlist.co.uk. We'll look at every report and aim to reply within 5 working days. We may hide or remove content, or close an account, that breaks these terms. If we remove something of yours, we'll tell you why and you can ask us to look again.
13. Our bits
The Kinlist name, logo, design and code belong to us. Please don't copy them without asking.
14. It's free
Kinlist is free to use. If we ever want to charge for anything, we'll tell you first and you'll never pay unless you agree to it.
We're a small, new service, so features will change as we learn what families need. If we stop offering Kinlist, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice so you can save what you need.
15. When things go wrong
We work hard to keep Kinlist running, but we can't promise it will always be available or free from mistakes.
Kinlist is for personal, family use. We're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that's a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not taking reasonable care. We're not responsible for:
- the products you buy, or anything a shop does or doesn't do
- gifts that double up, sell out or change price
- loss that wasn't foreseeable, or any business loss
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.
16. Ending things
You can delete a list, or your whole account, at any time. Deleting your account deletes every list and gift on it straight away. Anyone who opens an old link will see "This list has been taken down".
We may suspend or close an account if someone seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or to protect children or other users. Unless there's a safety reason not to, we'll tell you first and explain why.
17. Changes to these terms
If we make a change that matters, we'll tell you by email or in Kinlist at least 14 days before it starts. If you don't like the change, you can delete your account before then.
18. The legal bit
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your local courts too.
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
19. Get in touch
Questions, complaints or reports: hello@kinlist.co.uk, or write to Kinlist (Adam Ward and Paul Gray), Chapel Cottage, High Street, Norton St Philip, BA2 7LG. We'll always try to sort things out with you directly first.
